CREATING A DISTINCTIVE IDENTITY FOR A NEW TRACTOR LINE
I led the creative direction and product branding for the launch of Versatile's NEMESIS tractor, developing a distinctive decal system designed to differentiate the new product line from Versatile's established 4WD tractors. The project introduced a more modern and aggressive visual identity to the Versatile product portfolio, using inspiration from 1980s motorcycle racing graphics to give NEMESIS a distinctive personality within the utility tractor market.
THE OPPORTUNITY
NEMESIS represented a different proposition within the Versatile product portfolio. While Versatile had an established visual identity across its larger 4WD tractors, the new tractor line provided an opportunity to develop a more contemporary and energetic design language that would help it stand apart from both existing Versatile products and competing equipment. The challenge was to create something visually distinctive while maintaining a clear connection to the Versatile brand.
THE CREATIVE STRATEGY
I developed the creative direction around the visual language of 1980s motorcycle racing, drawing on bold graphics, movement and a more aggressive aesthetic. The intention was to move away from the more traditional appearance of Versatile's established product lines and create a product identity that felt modern, energetic and immediately recognizable. The decal design became an important part of the product's overall visual identity, helping NEMESIS establish its own personality while remaining part of the wider Versatile brand.
PRODUCT DIFFERENTIATION
The NEMESIS branding was designed to make the tractor visually distinctive within a competitive utility tractor market. Rather than relying solely on the physical characteristics of the equipment, the visual identity gave the product a recognizable personality that could help it stand out in dealerships, marketing materials and agricultural environments. This demonstrated how product branding and creative direction can contribute to product differentiation, particularly when introducing a new product into an established portfolio.
